Whiteout does exactly what the physical equivalent does: it covers something up. The content underneath stays in the file, which is fine when the point is presentation rather than secrecy. Blanking an old price before reusing a template, hiding a colleague’s handwritten note before printing a handout, tidying a stray artefact from a scan: all reasonable, none of them secrets.

It is deliberately not sold as a privacy feature, because a white rectangle over a bank account number is exactly the failure mode that has embarrassed governments and law firms. The text is still there and can be copied straight out of the file. When the content is genuinely sensitive, Redact PDF removes it from the exported document instead.

Whiteout areas are pending edits until you export, so you can reposition or remove them, and one dragged past the page edge is clipped to the page with a warning rather than rejected outright.
