Most free annotators treat a mark as final the moment you let go of the mouse. Here every annotation stays an object you can work with: select it to move it, drag a corner to resize a rectangle, pull either endpoint of an arrow to re-aim it, or open the inspector to change its stroke colour, line width and fill after the fact.

When a review runs long, the small things decide whether the tool stays out of your way. Shift-click to select several marks at once and align their edges or centres against the selection’s own bounding box. Group them so one click picks up the whole set. Nudge a selection with the arrow keys, copy a note from one page and paste it onto another, and undo any of it.

Everything you place is written into the exported file as a real PDF annotation, so it opens correctly in Acrobat, Preview and browser viewers. If you would rather the markup could not be moved or deleted by whoever you send it to, the Flatten PDF tool bakes it into the page artwork on the way out.

The things worth knowing before you edit the document.

Can I edit an annotation after placing it?

Yes. Select it with the Select tool and the inspector opens with its stroke colour, line width, fill and delete control. Rectangles resize from a corner handle, arrows can be re-aimed from either endpoint, and any object can be nudged with Alt and the arrow keys.

Can I highlight text on a scanned PDF?

Text highlighting needs a text layer to attach to, which a scan does not have. Drawing tools work anywhere, so on a scanned page use a rectangle with a fill, or a freehand mark, to achieve the same visual effect.

Will my annotations be visible in other PDF readers?

Yes. They are exported as standard PDF annotations, so Acrobat, Preview, Chrome and the usual mobile readers all display them. Flatten the export if you want them to be part of the page instead of separate objects.

Can I change how transparent a highlight is?

Yes. Set the highlight opacity before you mark the text, and the canvas preview uses the same opacity that the exported PDF will, so what you see while reviewing is what you get.
