What this tool does, and what it does not.
This is an electronic signature in the everyday sense: your handwritten mark, drawn or uploaded, placed on the page and written into the exported PDF. It is what most signing situations actually call for, an invoice approval, a school form, a rental agreement, a returns slip, and it takes about thirty seconds.
It is not a certificate-based digital signature. Those embed a cryptographic identity that a reader can verify against a certificate authority, which is a different mechanism with a different purpose. If someone has specifically asked for a digitally certified or qualified electronic signature, a dedicated e-signature service is the right answer, and it is worth knowing the difference before you send the file.
A signature placed here can still be positioned exactly: drag it, snap it to the page centre or to another object’s edge, rotate it in ninety-degree steps, and nudge it with the arrow keys until it sits on the line rather than near it. When you are done, flattening the export prevents the signature from being dragged off the page by anyone else.
Questions about this tool.
The things worth knowing before you edit the document.
Is a signature added here legally binding?
In many jurisdictions a plain electronic signature is valid for ordinary agreements, but this tool cannot make that judgement for your document or your country. What it produces is a visual signature embedded in the PDF, not a certificate-based digital signature. If a counterparty specifically requires a qualified or certified signature, use a dedicated e-signature provider.
Can I use an existing signature image?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPEG. A PNG with a transparent background sits most naturally on a signature line, since the page beneath shows through instead of a white block.
Can I sign on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The signature pad accepts touch and stylus input, and the document is fitted to the available width automatically so the whole page is visible on a narrow screen rather than the middle of it.
Can someone remove my signature afterwards?
By default it is placed as an image object that a determined editor could remove. Enable flattening on export to bake it into the page artwork, and add a password with the Protect PDF tool if the file should not be opened by everyone.
